This book is for general ophthalmologists, technicians andnurses to understand the usefulness of ERG and VER testing. Tosummarize in one sentence, ERG and VER can be used to address thequestion of visual loss in the face of a seemingly normal fundusexamination. Thus, electrodiagnostic testing is not solely for inheritedretinal dystrophies. In the past, ERG and VER testing has been used exclusively forretinal dystrophies. Because there are many books that delineate theERG and electrophysiologic characteristics of inherited retinaldegenerations, this book will not focus on that topic but rather on theevaluation of visual function where there is unexplained visual loss inthe patient. The book is based partly on our lecture at the AmericanAcademy of Ophthalmology Course 453, “ERG and VER for theBusy Practice: Not Only for Retinal Dystrophies,” given October 26,2009 in San Francisco. I hope that this book proves to be useful. Ilook forward to your emails if you have additional questions and comments.Gloria Wu, M.D.
